Record and keep a dream journal without an account. Sign in only when you want sync or AI analysis, then choose which cloud features to enable.

Start without signing up

Night Recording and your dream journal work on your iPhone from the start. An account adds backup, restore, sync, and AI insights.

You decide when AI is used

AI analysis is optional and can be turned off whenever you want.

Your voice stays out of AI

When AI analysis is enabled, it works with the dream transcript. Your original audio recording is not sent to OpenAI.

Transcription uses Apple Speech and may be processed on Apple servers. If you enable AI analysis, dream text - not the audio recording - is sent to the cloud for analysis.

THE PATH

The path to lucidity starts with capture.

Remembering dreams is a practical foundation for many lucid-dreaming techniques. The first two stages of the path are already in the alpha - and later practice can build on what you have saved.

2 of 4 stages are included in the alpha build
  1. IN THE ALPHA BUILD

    01Remember

    The dream stops disappearing

Wake up, say it out loud with your eyes still closed, and go back to sleep. By morning it is transcribed and waiting for you.

  2. IN THE ALPHA BUILD

    02Notice

You start seeing your own Dream Atlas

The emotions, places, people, and signs that keep coming back arrange themselves into a map. You can use that atlas as material for practising recognition inside a dream.

  3. IN DEVELOPMENT

    03Practice

    Skills that survive the crossing

Planned lessons will cover entering, stabilizing the scene, shaping objects, changing locations, and staying lucid as the dream unfolds.

  4. IN DEVELOPMENT

    04Become lucid

Awareness inside the dream, and awake

The goal is to recognize a personal sign inside the dream, hold the clarity steady, and reflect on how that practice affects attention while awake.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why the first minute decides what you keep

What research suggests about fragile dream recall, why capturing a dream during the night may preserve more detail, and exactly how Zetis treats your voice, your data, and your plan.

THE PROBLEM

Zetis: Lucid Dream Journal is a voice-first dream journal for iPhone. You start Night Recording before sleep; when a dream wakes you, you say what you remember without opening your eyes, and by morning it is a written entry with your original audio kept beside it. From there the app shows what repeats across nights - the people, places, emotions, and personal dream signs that keep coming back. It is built for one job: not losing dreams you actually had.

Dream memories are often fragile because conditions during REM differ from waking memory formation. Researchers have proposed that very low noradrenaline during REM and reduced prefrontal activity make an experience harder to consolidate and retrieve. These are plausible explanations, not one proven cause of forgetting. The practical inference behind Zetis is narrower: capture the fragment promptly, before other demands on attention replace it.

Not necessarily. In a sleep-lab comparison of 36 healthy adults, high dream recallers spent about 14.5% of the night awake versus 7.0% for low recallers, with more awakenings long enough to notice a dream. The authors estimated that roughly two minutes of wakefulness may help a dream trace reach longer-term memory. The study suggests awakenings matter; it does not show that memory ability is irrelevant for everyone.

WHY OVERNIGHT CAPTURE MAY HELP

The cited study did not directly compare Zetis or overnight voice capture with a morning journal. It found that people with higher recall had more and longer awakenings, which suggests that the moments immediately after a dream may matter. Zetis is designed around that inference: make capture available during the night, then review the transcript in the morning instead of relying only on what survived until the alarm.

Zetis uses voice to remove steps at a moment when attention is limited. You do not need to find a notebook, unlock a bright screen, or compose polished sentences: you can say the fragment first and organize it later. This is a product-design rationale rather than a controlled finding that voice is universally better than writing. It also preserves your original audio, pauses and all.

Treat it as a practical option rather than a proven protocol: the instruction itself has not been tested in a controlled trial. The rationale is simply to reduce competing demands on attention while recall feels fragile. If lying still is uncomfortable, move. The useful part is recording whatever remains before checking messages or starting the day, not following a rigid ritual.

That is a recognized outcome with a name, not a failure. Across a 15-day study of 204 people reporting on waking, 58% of mornings held dream content, 14% were “white dreams” - the clear sense of having dreamed with nothing retrievable - and 28% held nothing at all. The same study linked white dreams to vulnerability to interference rather than to dreaming less. Record the fragment you do have, even if it is one feeling or one room; Zetis counts it as a real entry.

Zetis does not promise that. A recent study found an association between a positive attitude toward dreams and more frequent recall, but it did not show that journaling causes recall to improve. Recording, reading back, and noticing what repeats gives you a consistent way to observe your own pattern over time. Your journal can show whether your recall changes; the research cannot predict when or whether it will for you.

USING IT AT NIGHT

You tap once before sleep and put the iPhone nearby - the screen can go dark, and it keeps listening in the background. Silence is discarded and only speech-like fragments are kept, so a night usually leaves a few short clips rather than eight hours of audio. If a dream wakes you, describe it aloud with your eyes closed and go back to sleep. In the morning you stop the recording and open Dreams to read the transcript, replay your voice, and add whatever else comes back.

Keeping the microphone live all night uses noticeably more power than an idle phone, so plan to sleep with the iPhone on a charger - that is the one setup requirement of the method. While recording runs in the background, the rest of the app stays paused rather than working behind it. And if you would rather not run it on a given night, you can still add the dream as text in the morning.

Zetis keeps sound that resembles speech, so a partner talking in their sleep, a television, or a conversation through the wall can land in the journal, while mumbling into a pillow can be missed. Put the phone on your side of the bed with the microphone uncovered and not under a blanket, and speak toward it rather than away. Anything captured by mistake stays on your device and can be deleted from the journal like any other entry.

PRIVACY AND AI

Yes. Night Recording and your dream journal work on the iPhone with no account and no connection - being offline never blocks capture. Sign in only when you want backup, restore, sync, or cloud AI analysis. One part of the pipeline does leave the phone even without an account: transcription uses Apple Speech, which may process audio on Apple servers.

Your recordings stay on the iPhone - dream audio is not sent to OpenAI. If you turn AI analysis on, the text of a dream is what goes to the cloud, and it is used to identify themes, emotions, places, people, actions, and your personal dream signs. AI is off until you choose it, requires an account, and can be switched off at any time; analyses already produced stay readable. The one exception is transcription: Apple Speech may process audio on Apple servers.

PLANS AND WHAT COMES NEXT

Free covers the whole capture loop: Night Recording, manual entry, the journal with search, filters and favorites, local-first storage, recall activity, and a limited lifetime allowance of AI analyses so you can see what analysis gives you before paying for it. Pro adds ongoing AI analysis as the journal grows, the Dream Atlas, and cross-dream insights. Your recordings, your full journal, and every analysis already produced stay accessible on either plan.

No, and no app can. Lucidity depends on your sleep, your attention, and your practice, none of which a journal controls. What Zetis supplies is the two things every lucid-dreaming method quietly assumes you already have: dreams you actually remember, and knowledge of the signs that repeat in yours specifically. That is a foundation rather than a guarantee - and it is worth having even if you never become lucid.

Today it is a journal, and deliberately so. The current alpha is capture and insight: Record, Dreams, Profile, and Settings. Structured practice - the Dream Lab courses, techniques, and skills - is the next stage of the roadmap and is not part of the alpha build. Free and Pro cover only what the app already does, so nothing you pay for is a promise about a future feature.
